Curious about meditation but not really sure how to do it? Want to start Yoga but intimidated about joining a regular studio class? Join Kate for a six-week Yoga and Meditation series perfect for complete beginners or even experienced students who want a slower paced class and who want to start a regular - and easy! - meditation practice.
 
We will begin each class with gentle stretching postures, relaxing flows and breathing techniques that create ease in the body, release stress and reduce tension. We will then finish with a series of different meditation techniques, starting slowly and gradually building upon the previous week's work. Absolutely no Yoga or Meditation experience is required.

The Grace of Surrender: The Practice of Struggling Less and Savoring More

Do you find yourself struggling with life? Do you ever wonder how life might become easier? In this experiential, body-centered workshop, we will consider our relationship with action and surrender. We’ll practice becoming more effective, more skillful and more relaxed in our daily lives.

The concepts we’ll explore will be:

• Passionate non-attachment
• Premature transcendence
• The right use of will
• Taking action releasing the fruits of the action

We’ll draw upon group discussion, mindful communication, journaling, body metaphor and deep relaxation to practice these principles. Come and join us.

Writer, teacher, and mindfulness coach, Aruni Nan Futuronsky finds life is best experienced with compassion, gratitude, and a whole lot of humor. She has worked at the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health since 1989. As a senior faculty member, she teaches self-discovery and spiritual attunement programs. Aruni is the creator of the innovative CD, “Life~Works, Meditations for Mindful Living”. She is the author of three books. The first, Recovering My Voice, is the story of one woman’s journey to find herself and her voice. Her second book, Already Home, is part memoir and part spiritual guide. Her new book, recently released, “Not Over Yet—Simple Strategies to Struggle Less and to Savor More” is an interactive workbook, inviting its readers into the practice of mindful presence. This six-week workshop is designed especially for the pregnant practitioner. You will learn breathing and focusing techniques that will help you to relax during pregnancy and childbirth. You will practice postures that will help to:

• Create more opening in the hips and abdominal region, which will help make space for your baby;
• Alleviate tension in the back, neck and shoulders;
• Create more openness in the chest; and
• Increase circulation to help prevent swelling in the feet and ankles.

As your body changes with pregnancy, so will your yoga practice. We will modify poses based on which trimester you are in and how your are feeling. Most importantly, this class will honor your mother's intuition, reinforce your body awareness and improve your ability to practice self care during pregnancy and into motherhood. This class is also appropriate for post natal students.

Everybody can do Yoga! Our popular Beginners’ Yoga Workshop is a wonderful opportunity to get individualized attention as you begin to explore the practice of Yoga, or refresh and refine an existing practice. The workshop will include a discussion about the history of yoga, the various styles of yoga, meditation, and the physical and mental benefits of a yoga practice, as well as a yoga class breaking down the basic postures with attention to alignment and options for modifications.
